making

The making was very much a question of the object. As the loudspeaker is both field sensor and sound generator, I have been thinking quite hard on how to make the object stand for itself. So I decided not to care about the context it was designed for (boxed in a speaker), but rather to let it be in the space. It generates sound which then inhabits the space.

So, wooden frame it is. I have been dreading the build, but it was actually not too bad. Luckily, wood is a forgiving material. I took a particular attention to the placement of the springs.

I knew gravity and the driver weight would apply more strength on the upper springs, but I have planned so that the height of the speakers projects the sound upwards.
